Born in Knoxville, Cliff moved to Nashville to work with Buzz Cason and Mac Gayden, who wrote his hit single "She Shot a Hole in My Soul," with Chuck Neese, both of whom were from The Sliders.
Curry took over for Little Ike Hamilton who was a member of the Bubba Suggs Band, with whom he played from 1957-1964.
