A small-run independent boutique label focusing on Nashville-based artists.

History[edit | edit source]

Established in 2009 by Michael Eades from 'yewknee' music, providing the initials yk, "as a conduit for music that friends had no plans on releasing."

yk records also is affiliated with a podcast called "We Own This Town," which was initially a Nashville area music blog, started and run by Doug Lehmann. As of 2018. WOTT started to serve as a podcast network with its own studio allowing others to record their own shows. According to the website: "There's still music insights about the fringes of the city but we also work to shine a light on creative and insightful folks in Nashville around of that realm. It's a real blast."

From the About page:

"Established in 2009, yk records is the sole undertaking of Michael Eades. It began as a means to help Uncle Skeleton release his first album, "Pancho Chumley" ; a collection of songs previously planned to shit on a shelf indefinitely.

In the years since that initial release the undertaking has grown and expanded but continues to supports artists who may otherwise go unheard. These are albums with a perspective and a voice unto themselves. The roster runs the gamut from blissful pop songs to crass country to tropicalia inspired electronica; a refreshing variety.

Physical releases are intended to be high-quality short-runs of vinyl with memorable packaging, something to marvel over and make artist and fan alike proud to own."
