A black nightclub in the Jefferson St area active in the 50s and 60s.

Billy Cox recalls in an interview (in ch.3) for the book "Becoming Jimi Hendrix" that the black nightclubs endured troublesome liquor laws: "There was this place, the Voters Club, where this guy named 'Good Jelly' would help a lot of the students get their IDs and sometimes even pay their tuition for them. He was one of the few that was open on Sunday. Because in the sixties, liquor by the drink had not been passed here. It was illegal unless you had a private club. So he would sell you a membership to the Voters Club for one dollar. He was packed all the time."
