A group that emerged out of a previous vocal group called The Southlanders, who had backed up several local artists, as well as releasing their own material. As that 5-piece matured several members tradedout eventually choosing a new name, The Omegas.

History[edit | edit source]

Omegas releases include songwriting credits and involvement from Boudleaux Bryant, as well the songwriting team of Boudleaux and Felice Bryant together.

Their first release as The Omegas got a positive review in Billboard Nov 23, 1959, followed by the second 45 in BB 16 May 1960, as the final release also in 1960ː BB Sept 5, 1960, CB Sept 10, 1960. The final releae also included Earl Sinks on vocals, who had moved to Nashville after his involvement with The Crickets. While his Wikipedia page claims "He and Norro Wilson, along with Bill Fernez, recorded as the country band The Omegas," referencing Bill Furness. However, the sound of The Omegas falls more akin to early rock & roll, similar to other Earl Sinks output. Indicative of long relationships, Don Gant later produced some of the recordings by Norro Wilson on Hickory, which was also associated with Acuff-Rose who had published the Bryants-penned tracks performed by The Omegas. Interestingly neither the Wikipedia or Discogs page for Norro Wilson mention his involvement with this group. The involvement of Wilson with the group however started when they were still The Southlanders, backing up local rock performer and later photographer, Sam Causey. The song on the A-side "Robert E. Lee" has songwriting credites by a Morris Wilson and Bill Furness, certainly a misspelling. Moreover, the firs Southlanders 45 in 1957, featured songs by the Bryants.
